Introduction of Skill Training Courses at the Fouman Faculty of Engineering to Young Astronomers of Gilan Province

On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, a gathering of young astronomers of Gilan Province was held at the Fouman Faculty of Engineering, University of Tehran.

In this gathering, which was held for the first time in the province, various programs were        organized by the Astronomical Society of Bandar Anzali, including scientific discussions on astronomy, honoring the young and elite graduates of the astronomy course, celebrating the start of their academic year, and observing the Sun in the beautiful sky of the Fouman Faculty of Engineering.

The officials of the Fouman Faculty of Engineering seized the opportunity to introduce the faculty, its potentials and capacities, and to emphasize the importance of skill development in securing the future careers of these young elites. They also presented the faculty's skill training courses and the "Skill Thursday" programs (at three levels: school student, university student and advanced industrial-specialized levels).

The key points presented by Dr. Naghash, Head of the Center for Engineering Skills Development at the Fouman Faculty of Engineering and a member of the Executive Council of the Skills Development Office of the University of Tehran, are summarized as follows:

    • The first definition of literacy, according to UNESCO: the ability to read and write.
    • The second definition: learning computer skills and a foreign language.
    • The third definition: having 12 types of skills (emotional, communication, financial, media, educational, computer, health, racial and ethnic, ecological, analytical, energy, and scientific).
    • The fourth definition: knowledge is meaningful when put into practice.

    • Our mindset needs to change!
    • We must constantly enhance our abilities and skills in various fields.

This gathering was another step in raising awareness among Gilan families about the importance of engineering skills and the value of their investment in high-quality higher education. It also increased the attention of the province's top students towards the Fouman Faculty of Engineering and improved the quality of the faculty’s incoming students.
