About

The Center for Coordination of Environmental Studies of the University of Tehran was founded in 1973, following the United Nations' Conference on Human and Environment which was held in Stockholm in 1972. Later in 1994, the Center was expanded and renamed to what is now the "Faculty of Environment". The Faculty is located at the heart of Tehran, adjacent to the main University of Tehran campus, and offers several programs, exclusively at the postgraduate level. Throughout the years, the Faculty has managed to undertake joint research projects with major players in the field of environmental protection in Iran, such as the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Industries and Mines, the Ministry of Oil and Gas, the Department of Environment, the United Nations Development Programme, and numerous municipalities. The lack of adequate attention to environmental issues, ever-growing consumption of natural resources, disproportionate urban growth, and in sum, the destruction and pollution of the natural and human environments have made the issues addressed at the Faculty all the more necessary. Since the inception of the Faculty, hundreds of its graduates have taken key positions in private and public organizations, and have continued the tradition of creating and expanding initiatives towards the betterment of the environment.
