Head of Sociology Department

The Department of Sociology is the first and oldest academic department within this faculty, having been established as one of the constituent teaching departments of the Faculty of Literature and Humanities at the University of Tehran prior to the founding of the Faculty of Social Sciences itself. In 1959, the master's program in social sciences was offered independently at the Institute for Social Studies and Research, and subsequently, a standalone undergraduate program in social sciences began admitting students at the Faculty of Literature and Humanities. Following the establishment of the Faculty of Social Sciences in 1972, the Department of Social Sciences was reconstituted as the Department of Sociology, and other academic departments were subsequently appended to it. At present, the department admits students at the undergraduate level in the concentration of Social Science Research; at the master's level in the concentrations of Sociology, Youth Studies, Social Research, and Women's Studies; and at the doctoral level in the concentrations of Cultural Sociology, Sociology of Social Problems, Economic and Social Sociology, and Sociology of Social Groups.
