Faculty members and students of the school of geology are active in various fields, which are important in human life on Earth, environment and engineering (from energy and mineral exploration to geological hazards, study of engineering properties of geological materials, identification of groundwater resources, etc.). Some of the most important current researches in the school of geology are:

• Reservoir characterization of Iranian reservoirs (especially in the Persian Gulf)
• Underground oil and gas storage
• Geological hazards in underground spaces
• Estimation of engineering properties of geological materials
• Comparison of the main metallogeny in the Himalayan-Zagros orogenic system
• Identification of faults and their characterization
• Seismology studies
